I need to get rid of my dad's 1995 Oldmobile Cutlass ASAP because I'm moving from New York to California very soon. Here's my dilemma: 1. I don't posses the title and I believe it's under my dad's name I've heard most junkyards will accept cars without titles but they need to see the registration of the owners name to accept it. The registration expires at the end of this month (8 / 15) but I need to be gone way before then. What are my option here? |

Look on craigslist for someone who "Tows unwanted or abandoned cars". You'll get about 150-$200 and they will pick it up. |

Thanks for the info! I'm in the Binghamton area, if anyone knows of a place off the top of their head? |

The concern I would have with just some anonymous person picking it up is there might be a financial responsibility if you still own it, e.g. Joe Schmoe's hillbilly towing picks it up and decides to take it for a joy ride. It's not something I would do. |

Have your dad mail you the title? How hard could that be? |

If your dad doesn't have a title, he can get a replacement pretty quickly. Confirm this but to do it cleanly, he gets the title, gets his signature notarized as the seller. Have him mail that and a photocopy of his drivers license to you. At that point, you can sell it with a title. Replace a title certificate | New York State DMV |

You have no legal authority to dispose of any vehicle that is not titled to you. You need to have title to transfer title , even to a scrap yard. |
